Wisdom Tooth Removal

Involves the
removal of a tooth

Wisdom teeth removal is a common dental procedure that can help prevent future problems with your oral health. When wisdom teeth are impacted, or unable to erupt through the gums, they can become trapped, which can cause pain and create a breeding ground for bacteria.

If left untreated, impacted teeth can cause infection and damage to adjacent teeth, gums, and even the jawbone. In some cases, wisdom teeth that have partially erupted are also removed, as they can be difficult to clean and are at risk of developing cavities or gum disease.

Your dentist or dental surgeon will perform a thorough examination to determine if your wisdom teeth need to be extracted. This may include a physical examination of your mouth and teeth, as well as X-rays. If it is determined that your wisdom teeth need to be removed, you will be scheduled for a procedure with your dental surgeon.

The procedure for wisdom tooth removal is typically done with local anaesthesia to minimise discomfort. During the procedure, the dental surgeon will make an incision in the gums to expose the erupted or impacted teeth, and then use special instruments to loosen the tooth from its socket. After the tooth has been removed, the area will be cleaned and sutured to promote healing.

It is important to care for your mouth after wisdom tooth removal. This includes keeping the area clean and free from food particles and bacteria, avoiding vigorous rinsing or spitting, and eating soft foods. If you experience any pain or swelling, your dentist or oral surgeon may recommend medications to help manage the discomfort.

KDC is one of the very few general dental practices that offer wisdom tooth removal. We remove erupted as well as impacted wisdom teeth with the necessary experience and skills required.
